Straight vs Curved Tension Fabric Backdrop: Which Size Do You Need?
Standing against a booth wall? Go straight. Standing behind a speaker, on a stage or as a photo spot? Go curved. Need more than 10 ft of width? Only straight goes that wide, up to 20 ft.
The shape is the first thing we ask about when someone orders a tension fabric backdrop, because it narrows everything else down: which sizes are possible, how the print will look in photos and how the backdrop sits in the room. Here is how we help customers decide.
When straight makes sense
A straight frame stands flat, so it lines up neatly with the back of a shell-scheme booth and leaves no wasted gap behind it. Because the whole surface faces forward, text stays readable from across the hall, which matters when your company name has to be seen from the aisle. It is also the only shape we make in the long sizes, so anyone who needs a wide media wall ends up here.
When curved makes sense
The curved frame bends gently towards the viewer, like an open book. Whoever stands in front looks framed rather than pasted onto a flat wall, and photos pick up a sense of depth. The bend also helps it stand steadily in open floor space, away from any wall, which is why event planners like it for stages, press corners and photo spots.
Our tip: If most of your photos will be taken from the front at close range, curved flatters people. If people will mostly read it from a distance, straight shows more of your message.

Matching the size to your space
- Standard 3 m × 3 m booth: 8 ft × 8 ft is 2.4 m wide and leaves breathing room at the sides. An 8 ft × 10 ft is 3.05 m, a touch wider than the booth, so only pick it if your back wall is longer than 3 m.
- Table-top display or small photo corner: 8 ft × 8 ft in either shape.
- Stage or launch backdrop: curved 8 ft × 10 ft, or a straight 8 ft × 16 ft when the stage is wide.
- Big media wall: straight 8 ft × 20 ft or 10 ft × 20 ft, about 6.1 m across. Measure first.
- Hotel function rooms: check the ceiling and any chandeliers. An 8 ft backdrop stands about 2.4 m tall, a 10 ft one about 3 m.
Our tip: Not sure how big it will feel? Our product page draws each size to scale next to a 170 cm figure. Switch between sizes and the drawing updates instantly.
One side or two?
If the back of the backdrop faces a wall, one printed side is all you need. When it stands in the open, for example on a stage visible from behind, at the end of an aisle or splitting a hall in two, print both sides so nobody sees bare fabric. Straight and curved both come either way.
